The future of hardware certification

By Andrew Gregory. Posted

One thread that we’ve become used to seeing over the last few years is that Open Source Hardware is growing both in the number of companies using it, and in the numbers of products that those companies are building.

To help companies (and home/shed/makerspace-based hackers) find open source hardware, and even to help them get their own gear certified, the Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA) has today announced its new read/write API. Read, because it helps anyone sift through the existing documentation and better understand what’s out there, and write, because the new system is designed to automatically pull data from projects’ existing documentation into OSHWA’s certification system, rather than making a human sit down and enter the information manually.

You can find out more about the project, and read up on the current state of Open Source Hardware, at www.oshwa.org.
