Important news about HackSpace

We have some important news to share about HackSpace: Issue 81 was the last issue of HackSpace as a standalone magazine, and HackSpace has become part of The MagPi, the official Raspberry Pi magazine. Starting with issue 145, We’ll be adding pages to The MagPi to make room for the stories and tutorials you’ve come to expect from HackSpace.

Cardboard Gramophone

Using cardboard and tape you can create a speaker for your phone that doesn’t use extra electricity. Passive speakers work by directing the sound in a single direction - towards you.

"I’ve always loved the aesthetic of old gramophones and finally sat down and made one. It will boost the volume of your music only a little bit, but it sure looks cool!" says Instructables user Nodel.

Nodel's design has won First Prize in the Cardboard Speed Challenge. Instructions to make the gramophone are available here.

Alternatively, the video below shows how to turn an old brass horn, found at a flea market, into an acoustic phone amplifier.
